About Susan Dees

Susan Dees photoSusan Dees, Psy. D. is a Licensed Psychologist in Colorado and New Mexico.  She has provided clinical services since 1974 and specialized in the treatment of trauma.  She has designed, trained, and implemented a bicultural model of treatment for children who have been sexually abused known as the Ghost Busters Program while working for Indian Health Service.

In addition to providing time honored traditional techniques of psychological assessment and psychotherapy, Dr. Dees is a practitioner of Neurolinguistic Programming, biofeedback and Heart Math.  She has trained in EMDR, ESCT (an application of EMDR to horses), Seemorg Matrix therapy, Emotional Freedom Therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, PEAT, and Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy.  

She is a Karuna and Usui Reiki practitioner, and has special interests in aura video photography and state of the art vibrational medicine. 

She has been certified as a Diplomate in Sports Psychology and a Ropes Course Instructor for the low initiatives.  She has been certified since 2000 by both The North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) and the Fran Joswick Center as a Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor. She has been involved with NARHA and the Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association as Membership Chair and later as Chair of the Health and Education Committee for NARHA.  In those capacities she was responsible for member recruitment and for review of precautions and contraindications for NARHA therapeutic riding programs. 

She founded the Medicine Horse Center for Therapeutic Riding and Equine Rehabilitation and helped develop a therapeutic riding program for emotionally disturbed and physically challenged Navajo children in Shiprock, NM.  She has trained with the developers and leaders in the field of equine experiential learning.  Most recently she has completed the Epona Advanced Study program developed by Linda Kohanov author of Tao of Equus and Riding Between The Worlds and Kathleen Barry Ingram, MA.

Dr. Dees is able to offer psychotherapy, workshops, clinics, and multi-day healing intensives as well as Equine Facilitated services at Morning Glory Farm, 24000 Road L, Cortez, CO for individuals or groups either as a primary or adjunctive form of therapy to foster personal growth. In addition, there are a number of excellent body workers, yoga instructors, and alternative medicine practitioners in the local area whose services can be scheduled.

Dr. Dees has taken up vermiculture or worm farming in order to restore balance to the land and clowning to spread joy since her retirement from Indian Health Service in 2007.
